We are hitting the road with the Cholavan, our travelling creative space, as part of the Cultural Heart Kirklees Library Festival! We’re bringing an exciting mix of drama, storytelling, and arts activities to St George’s Square and Macauley Street throughout March, offering families and community members the chance to explore what library spaces mean to them.
Join us at the Cholavan on the following dates:
The Cholavan will be a hub of creativity and conversation, designed to bring people together to share their experiences, ideas, and dreams for the future of libraries. Whether you love books, enjoy storytelling, or want to get hands-on with arts and crafts, there’s something for everyone.
Here’s what you can expect:
Storytelling & Drama Sessions – Free drama workshops where participants can bring their own stories to life, reimagine libraries as magical spaces, and explore the role of books in their lives. These 30-minute sessions will take place at:
Zine-Making Station – A hands-on creative space for making mini-magazines that capture personal stories, library experiences, and imaginative ideas for the future of libraries. Contribute to a collective vision for Kirklees libraries by designing your own zine page!
Reading & Reflection Zone – A cosy area inside the Cholavan where you can relax with a book, learn more about library services, and share thoughts on what makes a library special. Add your ideas to our Library Wishes Wall, where visitors can write or draw something they’d love to see in their local library.
We want to hear your stories and ideas! Through interactive activities, we’ll be gathering perspectives on:
Libraries are evolving, and your voice matters! Whether you’re a regular visitor or haven’t been in years, this is your chance to help shape the future of library services in Kirklees. Through drama, storytelling, and creative expression, we’ll look at what makes libraries essential spaces for learning, connection, and imagination.
We can’t wait to welcome you to the Cholavan and hear your library stories. No booking required – just drop in, get involved, and let’s celebrate the power of stories together!
Theres lots of other brilliant activites taking place throughout March in Kirklees as part of the wider Cultural Heart Libraries Festival. For more information, visit Creative Kirklees.
