Bolly-Hudd: Hip-hop and Bollywood dance workshops

Did you know that dance helps reduce stress, increases levels of the feel good hormone serotonin, and helps develop new connections?

Join us on various dates in May, June and July at the Chestnut Centre and Northfield Hall, Huddersfield to participate in our free Hip Hop and Bollywood dance workshops. These fun and energy-packed workshops will be an opportunity to learn new moves, break a sweat and make friends while doing something a bit different with experienced dance practitioners, Nisha Lall (Bollywood) and Nathan Geering (hip-hop). For ages 16+. No prior dance experience is necessary.

Times and dates are as follows:

Chestnut Centre

  • 6-7.30pm | 4 May 2023 – Hip-hop with Nathan Geering
  • 6-7.30pm | 15 June 2023 – Bollywood with Nisha Lall

Northfield Hall

  • 6-7.30pm | 18 May 2023 – Bollywood with Nisha Lall
  • 6-7.30pm | 6 July 2023 – Hip-hop with Nathan Geering

Hip-hop at Deighton Carnival on Saturday 24 June

For anyone who is considering hip-hop, we are very excited that Chris from Rationale Arts will be facilitating TWO taster hip-hop sessions at Deighton Carnival, where you will also find us and our Cholavan!

The times for the hip-hop taster sessions are as follows:

Workshop 1: 2.15pm – 3pm

Workshop 2 : 3.15pm – 4pm

Presented in partnership with Kirklees Year of Music, Young Creative Minds, Historic England, Arts Council England and High Street Heritage Action Zone (HSHAZ).

Dance Practitioners

Nathan Geering

Nathan received training in America, China and Korea where he learned advanced techniques from the former world champion Breakin Crews. He was first introduced to hip-hop theatre by Jonzi D who made him an original cast member of TAG which went on to tour the UK.

During his career Nathan has performed extensively nationally and internationally in countries such as Dubai, The Maldives, South Africa, Slovenia, Germany, Korea, America and Jordan where he performed for Royalty.

His skills include breakin, hip-hop, locking, popping, house dance and he includes elements of African, Latin and contemporary styles into his practice.

Nathan Geering

Nisha Lall

Nisha Lall  BA Hons (Dance) & BA Hons (Multimedia) is an independent artist with training in Indian, Arabic, Latin styles. Nisha has 15 years experience in delivery of dance projects in educational, professional and community settings. Her five years of professional experience in multimedia/web development also complement the projects she works on by also being about the provide digital marketing, digital artwork and film production.

Her producer / choreographer experiences include performances and shows as part of BBC Children In Need, Festival Of The Mind, Migration Matters Festival and The Walk (Little Amal). She is also the Co-Festival Director of Sheffield’s annual outdoor dance festival, Chance To Dance as well as a trustee for Croft House Community Centre.

Nisha Lall is an experienced dancer and choreographer in Bollywood Dance. She complements her Bollywood Dancing with training in Indian Folk Dance and Classical Styles. She has taught Bollywood around the UK at Dance Festivals and events for over 15 years, and appeared on Children In Need teaching Bollywood to the public. Her troupe also participated in the BBC3’s Bollywood Carmen production. She maintains strong links within the community by providing daytime for community organisations and evening classes in Sheffield.
