Championing the next generation of creative changemakers. The Young Chol-Operative creates real pathways for young artists and producers to develop their skills, gain experience, and shape their own creative careers alongside the Chol team.

How it works

Each Young Chol-Operative role is closely linked to project delivery, meaning you’re involved in real, live work from day one. As part of the team, young artists and producers also join planning days, team meetings and company discussions – gaining an unfiltered view of how a small arts organisation runs. You’ll take on responsibility for parts of a project and, while fully supported, are encouraged to shape your own creative approach and ideas.

Why we do it

Many young people face barriers when trying to start a career in the creative industries. The Young Chol-Operative exists to change that – creating paid, supported pathways for 16 – 25 year-olds to develop their skills, test ideas and build confidence. We don’t recruit based on qualifications or experience, but on curiosity, enthusiasm and care for the communities we work with.

What we all gain

These young practitioners bring new energy, perspectives and connections to Chol, helping ensure our work stays socially relevant and responsive. In return, they gain practical experience, creative autonomy and the support of a team that genuinely values their ideas. Many go on to freelance or collaborate with us again, a real measure of success for the model.
