Story Makers Research Event

On Thursday 26 May, Vicky Storey, Co-director at Chol, will be speaking at the Story Makers Research event, presented in partnership with Leeds Beckett University. Chol is proud to have been a lead partner of the Story Makers research project since it was established in 2017. Led by Leeds Beckett, the project connects teachers, artists and academics, in a bid to provide more creative opportunities for young people inside and outside of school, particularly those from socially underrepresented and economically disadvantaged communities.

The practice-based research of Story Makers focuses on creative learning in education, from the early years to higher education, researching with and alongside children through the use of drama and creative writing, in an aim to re-engage young learners by building their confidence, developing their emotional literacy, critical thinking and creating an imaginative community they can belong to.

Vicky will be speaking at the Story Makers research event on Thursday 26 May, 4-5pm, where she will be exploring the importance of friendship in the classroom as part of a caring pedagogy,  linking to Chol’s wider ten year strategy to put Yorkshire on the map for it’s bold and innovative reimagining of education through creativity and care.

On the Story Makers partnership, Vicky said: ‘Being part of the Story Makers Hub is such an exciting and important element of Chol’s regional partnership work. Chol’s mission is to ensure that children and young people in Yorkshire feel powerful, valued, and connected in their everyday lives, by taking part in creative and caring experiences. Being part of the hub allows us to connect with regional partners and leaders in this field, share new knowledge and practice through reflection and research, and work collaboratively to create positive changes for children and young people in schools and community settings across Yorkshire. I’m looking forward to speaking at the event in May and being involved with the project in the future.’

Book your tickets to the Story Makers event.
