Last month saw Chol digging into the industrial heritage of our area, culminating in the powerful and evocative ‘Run of the Mill’ performance by five fabulous young performers.

You might remember that we’ve been working with Ignite Yorkshire’s ‘Kick the Dust’, a national programme to make heritage relevant to young people in communities. Well, Chol consulted with an amazing group of young people, all keen to look into the textiles history of the area.

Hive minds make great ideas! Their proposal of doing a performance went from idea to reality in August, with our young company using materials and resources from Tolson Museum to explore the industrial past of textiles in Yorkshire.

Our talented bunch researched and devised the piece in just three days! As if that’s not impressive enough, on day four they presented their dynamic performance to a live audience, promenade-style at Colne Valley Museum.

It was a pleasure to work with director Olivia Race – new to Chol – as well as old hands, designer Emma Williams and photographer James Clare. We are unbelievably proud of our YARN young company Anthonia, Elysha, Cinnamon, Lily and Melina. Amazing ambassadors for Kirklees. We hope to work with this wonderful crew again soon!
