ARTIST NEEDED FOR LARGE-SCALE MURAL COMMEMORATING AND CELEBRATING KIRKLEES’ WINDRUSH GENERATION
Chol International Arts and Kirklees Local Television (KLTV) are looking for an experienced street artist to work with local young people to develop a new large-scale mural commemorating and celebrating the impact of Kirklees’ Windrush Generation.
The project is funded by the Windrush Day Grant Scheme with additional funding from Kirklees Council, and the design for the mural will be influenced by workshops and sessions with local young people as well as by first-hand testimony from the local windrush generation and their descendants as collected in film and print by KLTV.
Artist Specification:
We are looking for an artist with experience in street art, graffiti, mural art and outdoor visual art.
We welcome all applicants and are particularly keen to hear from artists who have a personal connection to the Windrush Generation. We are also keen to hear from artists who are based in Yorkshire and the wider North of England.
An element of facilitation and working with groups and young people is integral to this role however no previous experience in this area is necessary. Chol and KLTV are experienced facilitators, however an openness to be guided by the concepts and discussions that come out of the workshops and through the ideas generating sessions is essential.
