We were delighted to hear that one of our partner schools, Cartmel School in Grange Over Sands, Cumbria, has received a Gold Artsmark Award. Accredited by Arts Council England, the highly sought-after award is the only creative quality standard for schools and education settings.
Our relationship with Cartmel Primary School began in the first lockdown, where we held weekly online Imaginary Communities (IC) training sessions. These sessions were an in depth exploration of Imaginary Communities, and a chance for teachers and artists to get creative and have fun with likeminded people.
When restrictions eased, we (Vicky and Carly) went to Cartmel school to train the teachers and meet with the pupils, sharing the Imaginary Communities approach in the classroom and providing digital resources, embedding and exploring strategies from our flagship Equal Players programme. Weekly check-ins with the teachers gave us a chance to hear about the latest adventures in their classrooms and plan collaboratively as to where they might go next.
After much hard work and exploration into embedding creative practice into their school, we are so pleased to send our warmest congratulations to Cartmel for achieving the Artsmark award. We know that the whole school, teachers and children are bursting with creativity and ideas, and we look forward to hearing more and watching their journey unfold.
Artsmark shared the importance of Chol’s relationship with the school: “During the pandemic, the Arts have continued with digital programming and showcasing. Your partnership with Chol Theatre is a really positive relationship for staff CPD development.”
The power of play and creativity continues!
