Heritage and Culture

Chol collaborates with local communities to share untold stories in ways they care about. We co-create cultural events and performances exploring community identity and heritage. Through these projects, social ties are built and strengthened and there is an increased sense of belonging as communities take part in art in their local everyday spaces and heritage venues. We deliver two elements to this programme annually:

Community Performance

Our annual theatre piece is inspired by stories which aim to explore, celebrate, and/or commemorate local heritage by bringing refreshing perspectives together and exploring what it means to the future of our communities. These are intergenerational projects developed with children and young people alongside community groups. Our Community Performances often inform our Creative Curriculum strand, offering new creative workshops and session plans to local schools to further enhance and develop children’s understanding of local histories.

Working in Museums

We collaborate with museum partners across our core regions to further support and develop their cultural education offer. Museums work directly with one of our lead artists to explore a new project or to further develop a current offer with one of our partner schools. Working closely with our museum partners, teachers and children, we work together to question how inclusive and relevant their collections and programmes are to their local communities of children and young people and share this learning across Yorkshire as part of our ten year strategy.
