Starting in January 2022 and finishing in June 2022, Chol will be working on a brand new partnership with Sheffield College. Chol will become resident at the college, introducing students to work in community theatre and drama education, and training a group of students in Chol’s flagship story-making methodology ‘Imaginary Communities’. The students will be supported to work as facilitators in local schools and communities to gain first-hand work experience. As well as this, Chol is offering paid work experience to a small group of young producers in Sheffield, as part the exciting new Listen 52 project, which will lead to creating an original outdoor performance exploring the hopes, fears, and passions of young people about their thoughts, hopes and fears of what life will be like between now and the year 2052. This work will contribute to the final city centre performance of Listen 52 in July 2022.
This is an exciting new project that has been born out of previous collaborations with the college in 2020, where Chol worked with students and a group of young people in Brooklyn, New York to make a theatre piece about identity and belonging as part of the Tall Shadows project. We also worked with students to create and produce the UNLOCK film festival and trained students in Chol’s Imaginary Communities approach.
On the partnership, Vicky Storey, Chol Director said: ‘This is such an exciting time, where continue to ignite and support more incredible arts and cultural experiences for young people living and studying in Sheffield!’
Watch out for more information about the project in 2022.
