An Irish Welcome

As part of HSHAZ, ‘An Irish Welcome’ is a play which celebrates and explores stories from the Irish community in Huddersfield. Using testimonies and recorded interviews and featuring a community cast, the performance will showcase the Irish Community’s history and experiences of arriving and living in Huddersfield. The show will take place on 18 March 2022 at The Irish Centre, Huddersfield.

On Friday 28 January we had the pleasure of spending the evening with Huddersfield’s wonderful Irish Community at the Irish Centre. We were bowled over by the incredible stories shared with us and we thank everyone who attended. It was a brilliant way to kick-start the project and we can’t wait to share the stories.

How can you get involved?

There are still a number of ways to get involved with this project. Perhaps you’re interested in being part of the performance or working behind-the-scenes, or maybe you’d like to share your story – or know someone who does. Please get in touch with Carly@wearechol.co.uk for more information.

This project is funded by High Street Heritage Action Zones (HSHAZ) – a heritage-led regeneration initiative lead by Historic England, working with local councils and the community to create economic growth and improve the quality of life in our historic high streets. You can find out more here.
